Sangiovese Bargain
Elisbetta and her children, Igino and Alessandra, work closely with winemaker Massimo Bracalenteis to produce a range of highly-respected and beautifully crafted Brunelloi di Montalcino. They are particularly renowned for their single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino, Vigna la Casa, which was the first “cru” wine produced in Brunello.
2024 Sangiovese Toscana IGT – Special Offer Price £179.40 (list £191.40)
From a good vintage, quite warm, which has suited this wine.
Primary Sangiovese with red and black forest fruit, cherry, and a touch of spice and violet. Perfect midweek drinking from a very promising vintage. A great “everydayer”, this little gem has a lot of quality: there is nothing clumsy about it, and you can tell it comes from a top estate, with a purity of fruit and general balance that are not easily found in this price range. Works well with pizza, pasta dishes and just about anything.
2023 Rossi di Montalcino – Offer Price £135.00 (List £149.70) per 6 x 75cl
More serious than the Sangiovese and leans towards Brunello in style. Lovely fruit, red and black berries, hint of cranberry and savoury notes – this has a lovely mouthfeel with fine tannins and good acidity. It’s a nicely balanced wine and has a sustained finish. This will pair well with pasta, cheese, grilled meats, and risotto.
2019 Brunello di Montalcino – Offer price £299.70 per 6 x 75cl per 6 x 75cl
The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens slowly in the glass, yet it is worth the wait as a dusty blend of dried flowers, cedar shavings, wild strawberries, and spice emerges over time. It’s silky and enveloping with fresh acidity and pretty wild berry fruits that gain in sweetness as they travel across the palate. It finishes long and staining yet still lively and spry, leaving a coating of fine tannins and licorice hints that resonate under an air of violet inner florals. The 2019 is a lovely interpretation of northern Montalcino fruit. 93 Pts Drinking Window 2025 – 2035 From: Buckle Your Seatbelts: 2019 Brunello and 2021 Rosso di Montalcino (Dec 2023) – By Eric Guido on November 2023
