Brian Peacock first joined the wine trade in 1978 and spent his formative years learning from some great palates who used to supply the good and the great in Cambridge and Oxford. After many an adventure he ended up at La Reserve as wine buyer, and for a time this small independent chain had one of the finest selections in the country.
In the spring of 2004, Brian decided that the time was right to go his own way and formed Ten-Acre Wines. He felt that in these days of exorbitant rents and expenses a retail environment was a difficult place to be truly independent and competitive, and wanted to be able to continue to offer the sort of wines he believed in. Why Ten-Acre? Brian grew up on a fruit farm, and this was the name of a favourite family orchard. The trees were tall, and the picking difficult, but the fruit was always the sweetest.
We are pleased to say that Ten-Acre Wines Limited is moving on apace, expanding our range and increasing our staff numbers dramatically. Brian has now been joined by two ex-La Reserve shop managers:
Omar Raafat trained as a scientist and, having failed in his quest to find a cure for any of the major diseases, decided to move full-time from molecular biology to fine wines. A passion for wines with character was the catalyst for Omar's latest leap of faith and, as that sounds pretty scientific to us, we believe him!
Jo Burns was drawn back into the fold following a hiatus with an online fine wine broker. Having reached the conclusion that he was happier selling wines he had actually tasted and enjoyed, all it took was the offer of a damp warehouse and a corkscrew to get him back on board.
We are first and foremost wine-lovers and we really, genuinely, absolutely care about what we buy and what we sell. We hand-select all the wines we offer and we have no ties to big business, in other words we are genuinely independent. Our great hope is that you enjoy our wines as much as we do!
Brian, Omar and Jo.
As wholesalers we are obliged to sell a minimum of 12 x 75cl bottles (or 9 litres) of wine per transaction and payment may be made by cheque, bank transfer, debit or credit card.
